✨ Welcome back, Entrepreneurs

This issue shows AI entering its infrastructure era. From OpenAI’s legal battle and shifting VC bets, to safer assistants, cheaper local models, edge creativity, sleep-based health prediction, and AI reshaping how we work, the signal is clear: control, cost, and deployment now matter as much as capability.

🔥Big AI moves

🔹OpenAI disputes Elon Musk’s lawsuit over its for-profit shift

OpenAI published court records and internal notes arguing that Elon Musk agreed in 2017 to a for-profit transition before leaving the company. OpenAI claims Musk is now misrepresenting that history through repeated legal actions that could slow its progress while benefiting xAI.

🔹Sequoia joins Anthropic’s funding round, backing multiple AI rivals

Sequoia Capital is reportedly investing in Anthropic despite already backing OpenAI and xAI, signaling a break from the traditional VC rule of picking a single winner. The round is led by GIC and Coatue, with Microsoft and NVIDIA participating.

🔹Z.ai releases GLM-4.7-Flash for local coding and agentic workflows

Z.ai introduced GLM-4.7-Flash, a lightweight ~30B-class model optimized for local deployment. It balances strong coding and agentic performance with efficiency, and supports creative writing, translation, roleplay, and long-context tasks. Open weights and a free API tier lower the barrier to experimentation.

🧠 Anthropic identifies the “Assistant Axis” to prevent AI persona drift

Anthropic researchers mapped a neural “Assistant Axis”, that defines how assistant-like a language model behaves and showed how stabilizing it reduces harmful outputs without degrading performance.

Highlights

  • Mapped a “persona space” across 275-character archetypes

  • Found the Assistant persona sits at one extreme of the primary neural axis

  • Models drifting away became more prone to role-play and unsafe behavior

  • Activation capping reduced jailbreak success by ~50%

Why it matters:
This points to safer assistants without dumbing them down critical if you’re embedding LLMs in customer-facing or regulated products.

📱 SnapGen++ brings DiT-quality image generation to edge devices

Snap researchers introduced SnapGen++, an efficient Diffusion Transformer system system capable of generating high-fidelity 1024Ă—1024 images on mobile and edge hardware.

Highlights

  • Compact DiT (~0.4B params) for on-device 1K images

  • Adaptive global–local sparse attention

  • Elastic supernetwork for device scaling

  • Few-step sampling via K-DMD distillation

Why it matters:
This nudges image generation from cloud-only to on-device important for consumer apps where latency, cost, or offline use matters.
