OpenAI says an internal model more capable than GPT‑6 Astra produced a proof addressing the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize problem. The proof argues that an initially smooth fluid, under a smooth external force, can develop a singularity—where velocity grows without bound—in finite time.

The effort involved roughly 10,000 concurrent agents and reached the proposed solution after 88 hours. OpenAI also published a Lean-formalized proof, although broader independent mathematical review remains important.
