Google Brings Sign-Language-to-Text AI to Pixel 11

Google DeepMind introduced SL2T, a multilingual AI model that translates sign language directly into text. It powers new ASL-to-English features in Gboard and Live Transcribe on Pixel 11, letting users sign to search, write messages, respond in conversations, and interact with Gemini.

Highlights

  • Trained on over 100,000 hours across more than 50 sign languages

  • Launches with ASL-to-English translation on Pixel 11

  • Works in Gboard and Live Transcribe, with more devices and languages planned

  • Processes body-position coordinates instead of sending raw camera footage for translation

Why it matters: Google is bringing sign-language AI into consumer products, giving Deaf and hard-of-hearing users a faster, more natural alternative to typing.

AI-Controlled Oxygen Outperformed Manual Hospital Care

In a randomized trial involving 300 patients across four U.S. hospitals, an automated system monitored oxygen levels and adjusted treatment in real time. Patients remained within their target oxygen range 85% of the time, compared with 63% under standard clinician-managed care. The system also reduced the time patients spent with oxygen levels that were dangerously high or low.

Gemini Adds More Connected Apps for Everyday Tasks

Google is expanding Gemini’s connected apps with services including Granola, Otter.ai, Wix, Ticketmaster, Pandora, Thumbtack, and Zocdoc. Rolling out over the next few weeks, the integrations will let users summarize meetings, edit websites, book experiences, reserve restaurants, find event tickets, stream music, hire home professionals, and schedule medical appointments directly through Gemini.

The bigger shift is turning Gemini from an assistant that answers questions into a central place for taking action. By connecting outside services across work, travel, entertainment, home, and health, Google is bringing more everyday tasks into a single AI conversation.
