This issue: Three weeks ago, the US government pulled the kill-switch on a frontier AI model for the first time. Yesterday, it flipped it back on. Fable 5's return leads an issue with one theme: AI is moving into the systems you already use your ECG, your video editor, your job. Let's get into it.

Claude Fable 5 Is Coming Back Globally
Anthropic says Fable 5 will return globally on July 1 after US export controls were lifted. The model was paused after Amazon researchers reported a safeguard bypass, but Anthropic says later testing found the issue was not unique to Fable 5 or Mythos 5 and involved a borderline defensive cybersecurity case.

Highlights
Fable 5 and Mythos 5 launched on June 9
US export controls were applied on June 12 after a reported safeguard bypass
Anthropic suspended access because it could not reliably verify nationality in real time
Export controls were lifted on June 30, with Fable 5 returning globally July 1
Anthropic added new safeguards and a HackerOne program for cyber jailbreak reports
Why it matters: This is not just a model coming back online. It is the first major test of how governments, AI labs, cloud platforms, and security researchers respond when frontier models trigger national-security concerns.

A Routine Heart Test Just Got an AI Upgrade
EchoNext, developed at NewYork-Presbyterian and Columbia, received FDA clearance to detect hidden structural heart disease from a standard ECG. Trained on 700,000 ECG-echocardiogram pairs, the tool found signals in a test patient already get turning routine data into an early warning system.
The issue also covers the first FDA-cleared AI delivering care between visits, Assort Health’s $120M voice AI raise, primary care’s impossible workload, and an oral GLP-1 pill moving into Phase III all pointing to the same shift: healthcare AI is finding more inside the systems we already use.

🔹Fable 5 Looks Powerful, But Expensive
Atomic Chat tested Fable 5, GPT-5.5, Opus 4.8, and GLM 5.2 on the same physics-heavy HTML5 canvas prompts. Fable 5 produced the best crash simulations, but used 62,158 tokens and cost $3.12 about 6x more than Opus 4.8. Frontier model quality is improving, but the real tradeoff is becoming performance versus price.
🔹Gemini Spark Is Becoming a Personal AI Agent
Google teased new ways to use Gemini Spark, including macOS integration and smart triggers that help the agent take action around the clock. Personal AI is moving from “ask when needed” to agents that sit across your devices, watch for the right moment, and help tasks move automatically.
🔹Gemini Omni Flash Is Here for AI Video Editing
Google launched Gemini Omni Flash, a high-quality, cost-efficient model for video generation and conversational editing. Builders can refine videos with natural language prompts through AI Studio and the Gemini API. AI video is moving from “generate a clip” to “edit the whole workflow by talking to the model.”

Google Turned NotebookLM Into a Short-Video Maker
Google is rolling out Short Video Overviews in NotebookLM, a new feature that turns uploaded documents, websites, or videos into 60-second vertical clips with key ideas, visuals, and AI voiceovers. Users can pick a topic, generate a quick explainer, and share it from mobile or web.

The bigger shift is format. AI research tools are moving from “summarize this document” to “turn this into content people will actually watch.” NotebookLM is no longer just helping users understand sources it is starting to turn them into ready-made educational media.

Build AI Image Apps Faster with Gemini 2.5 Flash Image
Gemini 2.5 Flash Image now gives builders a production-ready model for image generation, editing, blending, character consistency, and 10 aspect ratios across social, video, ecommerce, games, and presentations. You describe the creative tool, test it in AI Studio, export the code, and deploy.
The part worth noticing: this isn’t just another image model. It gives developers the control layer to build real creative apps and not just generate one-off pictures.
