🟣 Sunday Special — Your AI Events, Learning, and Career Briefing

Issue #69

Some customer-service roles are shrinking. Related jobs are growing. Moving between them isn’t automatic.

This week: what new workforce research reveals, how AI skills appear in job requirements, and opportunities to practice yours.

Also inside: Office inside Copilot, a paper-to-AI learning setup and two online hackathons with cash prizes.

Disclaimer: Curated for informational purposes. Verify details before registering or applying.

📊 The Big Picture

Fewer call-center jobs. A difficult next step.

Revelio Labs’ October 6 analysis found that global call-center employment was 5.3% below its December 2023 peak.

Across 12 middle-income countries, related roles continued growing over the past year:

  • Software and data: 8.9%

  • Customer success and client relations: 7.2%

  • Technical support: 2.6%

But only 10.8% of observed workers leaving call centers moved into those higher-paying categories.

Why it matters: A growing occupation doesn’t guarantee an easy transition. Specific technical, analytical or customer-management skills can matter.

The honest part: The pattern suggests AI may contribute, but the analysis cannot establish which companies replaced workers with chatbots. Other economic factors may also play a role.

📊 Career Signal

Show what you can do with AI

Affirm’s remote Analyst listing offers a concrete example: use tools such as Cursor, Claude Code and copilots to support analytical work—and carefully verify the output.

It also asks for 1–3 years of analytical experience and working knowledge of SQL or Python.

Your move: Build a small project showing the question you investigated, how AI helped, what you checked and what you found.

💻 AI at Work

Word, Excel and PowerPoint move inside Copilot

Microsoft’s October 9 announcement brings document creation, editing and collaboration directly into the Copilot app, with branded templates and version history.

Why it matters: You could take a work assignment from first prompt to finished document in the same workspace.

Access: Rolling out to Frontier customers in Chat and Cowork—not every Copilot account.

🧠 Builder Signal

Write on paper. Get AI feedback on your steps.

Noah Tye shared a learning setup combining a document camera, ChatGPT and a small AI-built tool that pastes captured images into the chat.

He works through math problems on paper, then asks for feedback on his steps.

The builder lesson: A useful AI project can solve one small problem—like moving handwritten work into a conversation.

The caveat: This is one creator’s experience, not a tested measure of tutoring accuracy.
