Perplexity Launches AI-Powered Election Information Hub

Perplexity, an AI search company, launched an AI-powered Election Information Hub to provide key voting details and real-time updates. The hub offers AI-generated answers to voting questions, candidate summaries, and live vote tracking using data from trusted sources like AP and Democracy Works. It includes polling locations, requirements, and election times, prioritizing accuracy with non-partisan sources like Ballotpedia.

The hub lets users enter their address or city to view detailed ballot information, including tracking races for President, Senate, and House. Users can also see state vote counts and candidate standings. However, inaccuracies like outdated info on Robert F. Kennedy's exit and a mistaken listing of a write-in candidate for Kamala Harris highlight the challenges of using generative AI for accurate election info. Perplexity, the organization behind the hub, acknowledges these issues and emphasizes the need for ongoing refinement to ensure reliable AI-driven civic tools.

Netflix Deepens AI Investment in Gaming with New Leadership Role

Netflix is ramping up its AI ambitions in gaming, appointing Mike Verdu as Vice President of Generative AI for games. Previously head of Netflix's games division, Verdu announced his "creator-first" vision, aiming to use AI as a powerful tool to accelerate game development and enrich player experiences. Under Verduā€™s leadership, Netflix has launched over 100 games and is currently testing cloud gaming across TV and PC in select countries.

The game industry is starting to explore AI's potential, with Netflix joining companies like Google and startups like Decart in developing AI-generated games. Despite promising systems like Googleā€™s GameNGen and "Oasis," fully AI-driven games face technical challenges in memory and image clarity. Verdu sees Generative AI in gaming as a pivotal moment, offering new possibilities for developers and players.
