Today: AI is moving into acne prescriptions, robot control and enzyme designβ€”but the limits matter as much as the breakthroughs. Also inside: a $100K AI ad competition, invisible text watermarks and an anime prompt generator you can build without coding.

Let’s get into it πŸ‘‡

Nolla says its AI can issue first-time acne prescriptions

Nolla Health says it is the first U.S. organization authorized to let AI issue initial prescriptions, launching an acne-care pilot for Utah residents aged 18 and older.

Users answer questions and scan their face through Nolla Derm. The service offers personalized acne treatment, medication delivery or pharmacy pickup, and access to licensed physicians. Plans start at $4.99 per month.

The pilot includes phased physician oversight, with two doctors approving prescriptions for the first 100 patients. Its authorization covers limited acne careβ€”not an unrestricted β€œend-to-end AI doctor.”

State of Product reveals what AI still hasn’t solved

80% of product professionals say AI helps them ship faster, but customers aren’t seeing value any sooner. Atlassian’s State of Product 2027 explores the gains AI is delivering and the challenges that remain, from decision-making that hasn’t kept pace to gut instinct overriding customer evidence.

Could AI spot diabetes in 20 seconds of speech?

Researchers tested AI on short voice recordings. In an 801-person subgroup, it identified 82% of people with diabetes but falsely flagged 47% without it. The findings need clinical validation, and the tool cannot replace blood testing.

πŸ”ΉElevenLabs offers $100K for the catchiest AI ad

ElevenLabs launched a $100,000 creative competition to make a 15–45-second AI ad for a fictional brand using ElevenCreative. Entries need an original jingle, product name, image, logo and required watermark. The grand prize is $50,000. Submit by November 1, after posting publicly on at least two eligible platforms: X, Instagram, TikTok or YouTube.

πŸ”ΉReka previews one AI model for video and robot actions

Reka introduced Rho-1, a 19-billion-parameter model that understands and generates text, images, video and robot actions within one neural network. The company says it can generate continuous video in real time, adapt as instructions change and control robot movements. The research preview explores a unified approach to digital creation, interactive simulations and physical AI.

πŸ”ΉOpenAI will add invisible watermarks to EU text outputs

OpenAI announced textGrain, an invisible text watermark rolling out to eligible ChatGPT and Codex outputs in the EU. API customers worldwide can opt in for select models, with watermarking off by default. Detector access initially requires approval. Editing can weaken detection, and a watermark cannot verify accuracy, identify users or prove how much humans contributed.

Build an anime prompt generatorβ€”without writing code

This guide shows how to use Lovable to build a tool that creates paired storyboard and animation prompts for AI anime shorts.

Learn to add story fields, sample ideas and copy buttons, refine the design, test on mobile and publish your app.

The walkthrough also shows how uploading your storyboard as a video reference helps keep characters, lighting and mood consistent.

Google DeepMind’s AI can design enzymes that don’t exist in nature

Google DeepMind introduced AlphaProtein Novo, a generative AI system for designing new enzymesβ€”proteins that speed up chemical reactions.

The team reports state-of-the-art activity on two benchmark reactions. It also designed custom enzymes to synthesize piperidine, a chemical structure used in pharmaceuticals, and break down DEHP, an environmental pollutant used in plastics.

The work explores how AI could create functional proteins beyond those found in nature. Preprints and code are available, but broader applications need further research. These early findings have not yet completed peer review.

AI saves time. What turns that into business results?

McKinsey’s survey found 80% reported better individual productivity, while 37% reported a positive contribution to company earnings. This issue explores the gapβ€”and why measuring results matters.
