📊 The Big Picture

AI Agents Are Spreading Faster Outside Engineering

AI agents are no longer primarily a software-development story.

Two new OpenAI studies found that since February, weekly active enterprise Codex users grew 108× in legal, 41× in sales, 41× in recruiting, and 26× in marketing. Engineering grew 5× over the same period.

The findings draw partly on more than 10 million enterprise messages and show companies moving from asking AI questions to delegating complete, multi-step assignments.

What it means for you:

  • Business functions are adopting agents faster than the teams that first popularized them

  • Codex generated 64% of combined Codex and ChatGPT enterprise output tokens as of June

  • Leading firms produce 8.3× more AI output per active user than typical firms

🆕 New This Week

McKinsey Says AI Fluency Is Becoming a Baseline Skill

McKinsey reports that demand for AI-fluency skills has increased 13.6-fold in three years.

The term covers more than prompting. It means understanding when to use AI, deciding what to delegate, evaluating the result, and recognizing when human judgment should override the system.

What it means for you:

  • AI fluency is expanding from technical positions into business, education, engineering, and skilled trades

  • Natural-language app development and agent orchestration are becoming workplace capabilities

  • Judgment, adaptability, collaboration, and responsible decision-making remain part of the skill

Indeed Expects AI to Reshuffle White-Collar Work

An Indeed Hiring Lab survey of 120 economists and labor-market experts found no clear agreement that AI will simply eliminate or create large numbers of jobs.

The stronger expectation is a reallocation inside white-collar work: away from routine, rules-based activities and toward positions that complement new technology.

What it means for you:

  • 52% expect AI to be at least a mild drag on employment over the next year

  • 35% expect a net employment gain, while 13% anticipate no effect

  • 57% predict downward wage pressure for college-educated workers

AI Is Cutting Creative Production Costs

Creator Umesh shared an AI-generated video showing how small teams can produce polished visuals faster and with fewer resources.

  • Full video produced without a traditional production team

  • AI handled visual generation, editing style, and output formatting

  • Total cost: a fraction of what the same output required 12 months ago
